Things to Keep in Mind While Volunteering

Be patient and Respectful

Your behavior reflects upon the club. Act appropriate at all times and show respect towards staff members and residents.

Be Mindful of Your Speech and Consonants

Due to hearing loss, some residents would benefit from slightly louder speech and articulate pronunciation.

Adapt

Pay attention to how certain residents respond to you. While many residents may require slower speech, many others are capable of understanding normal speech clarity and speed. Simply pay attention to how they process information and adapt accordingly.

Pay Attention and Practice Active Listening

Refrain from using a cellular device, be respectful towards staff and residents, as well as other volunteers, make eye contact and be sure to active interest in the conversation (asking question, clarifying something, etc.).

And Remember

There is not a singular correct way to speak to others, these are simply general rules to follow while making a difference in your community.
